Certificate Show : Artist Statement for CT Photography Final Project I am drawn to items of yesteryear and often find myself photographing items that have been discarded and forgotten. Growing up in Northern Maine’s potato country, I saw farms and other buildings abandoned due to economic and changing farming patterns. As I photographed these abandoned buildings, I wondered what happened to the previous tenants or owners causing this neglect. My color images show the current condition of the building and invite one to ponder about its memories, its caretakers, and its state of decay. What started out as a whim, picking up old cameras at yard sales and from relatives has resulted in an eclectic collection of cameras dating back from 1908 to the present. In my black and white work, the still life scenes feature family memorabilia along with images that may have been taken with one of the family cameras. Other cameras, photos, and related items of each era are also included. These photographic timepieces explore time and the personality of an era.
